My first painting sold for $43.
But that’s not where the story ends...

My first taste at selling artwork was at a local cafe & bar that held live art & music. I sold my first piece through a silent auction. The night ended and I was handed an envelope with $43 written large with a permanent marker. I pocketed the cash & made my way out into the cool night air with a prayer that I could gift out the cash to someone truly worthy & that I could see the impact it could have. A first fruits if you will of my new found labor of love.

Moments after stepping out of the venue I happened past a gentleman sleeping rough. He had a cardboard sign but it was too dimly lit to read so I made myself a spot next to him on the footpath & asked him what it was that lead him to his situation. What he said & the events that took place have stuck with me ever since…

”I’m just a normal guy, just like you. I lost my job, then my wife left me 3 months ago & took the kids. I was sleeping in the car until last month when I had to sell it to get by. I’m just out here asking from anybody that will help. I just want enough money for a rental deposit so the courts will let me see my kids. Without a residents, I can’t see them.”

”How much do you need?” I asked. Looking down at his matt and counting the coins others had thrown down, he said… “$43…. I just need $43 more dollars & I’m there”

Reaching into my pocket I produced the envelope from the art sale. $43 written with large numbers on the front. I said to the man “Brother, I have something of yours..” Handing him the envelope, a look of pure bewilderment came across his face. All I could say at that point was “It’s yours, I was just meant to hold it for a time.”

This is my story of creating, being blessed & being a blessing to others through my artwork. I continue to write that story & everyone who has bought my artwork has helped contribute to blessing others.
